Transparency is the feature handwriting animation tools most often put behind a subscription, alongside higher resolution and the better fonts. It is worth being concrete: here it is free, there is no export counter, there is no watermark on any format, and 4K is included. The site is funded by advertising on the page, not by the tool.
Three routes, and which to pick
Luma matte MP4 — start here
White writing on pure black, in an ordinary H.264 file. Every editor can key it, the files are small, and nothing exotic is required of your codec support. Use it as a track matte (or luma matte) on a colour layer, or simply blend it with Screen over dark footage.
This is almost certainly the one you want, and it is the format CapCut users already have a workflow for.
PNG sequence — when you want it exact
A ZIP of numbered PNGs with true per-pixel alpha, including the soft anti-aliased edges of the strokes. No keying, no matte, no quality loss — every editor imports an image sequence. The catch is size: PNG sequences are enormous, so the default frame rate is 15 rather than 30, and the app blocks an export it can predict will be unusably large rather than letting your browser run out of memory.
Alpha-packed MP4 — small file, one step of setup
A double-height MP4: the picture on the top half, its transparency mask as a white-on-black matte underneath. It is an ordinary H.264 file, so it stays small and plays anywhere. In your editor, duplicate the clip, crop one copy to the top half and one to the bottom, and use the lower as a luma track matte for the upper.
Both dimensions are padded to a multiple of 16 before encoding. That is not cosmetic: without it, 4:2:0 chroma subsampling bleeds across the seam between the two halves and the extracted alpha comes out with a dirty line through the middle.

Why there is no transparent WebM
It is the obvious-looking answer and it does not work reliably. VP9 stores alpha as a separate encoded stream; browser encoder and muxer support for it is inconsistent, Safari will not play it at all, and Chrome on Android renders the alpha incorrectly. Offering it would mean shipping files that fail silently for a large share of the people you send them to, so it is deliberately absent rather than quietly broken.
How to export
- Type your text and style it as you like.
- In the Export panel, set Background to Transparent. The preview switches to a checkerboard so you can see exactly what you are getting.
- Pick Luma matte, Alpha-packed or PNG sequence. MP4 and WebM grey out, with the reason shown — they cannot store transparency.
- Press Export. Encoding happens on your device; nothing is uploaded.

What resolution can I export?
